WASTEWATER TREATMENT

Wastewater is a byproduct of domestic, industrial, commercial or agricultural activities. The characteristics of wastewater vary depending on the source. Types of wastewater include: domestic wastewater from households, municipal wastewater from communities and industrial wastewater. Wastewater can contain physical, chemical and biological pollutants.

At global level, appropriate wastewater treatment is still lacking in many countries. Wastewater treatment is done to improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally.

This book focuses on source, characteristics and treatment of wastewater particularly in industrial environment. The treatment methods include physical, chemical and biological methods. The book has been divided into five chapters namely, Water Quality and Preliminary Treatment, Adsorption and Oxidation Processes, Wastewater Treatment, Industrial Water Treatment and Conventional Treatment Methods

The authors hope that this book will enable the readers to understand well the concepts of wastewater treatment.
