The Veteran

Colonel Jake Harris is being forced to retire at the age of forty-eight after a distinguised thirty year career spent entirely overseas, having enlisted after the deadliest school shooting in hstory as one of only three survivors. He returns to the United States to find that it is nothing like what he left. The government is in control of everything from transportation to employment. Every business is now controlled by the government. He finds that his pension and retirement savings were absorbed by the governments General Fund and he is forced into a menial job to afford himself decent living conditions. He tries to settle in, but its just not working. Then he meets a group of people that have determined the school shooting to have been the catalyst for the totalitarian soicalist government to take control. One of the group, a renegade scientist, has developed a unique method of time travel and sends his forty-eight year old consciousness back to his seventeen year-old body in an attempt to stop the shooting and return history to its normal course.
