The Chase of the Ruby tells a thrilling tale of a mysterious oriental figure who pursues a British politician to London, where he wreaks havoc with his powers of hypnosis and shape-shifting. Richard Bernard Heldmann - better-known by his pseudonym, Richard Marsh - was born in England in 1857. He was educated at Eton and Oxford University, and began to publish short stories shortly after graduating. He published his first novel, The Mahatmas Pupil, in 1893, and went on to produce almost twenty more.
