The Centaur

""The Centaur"" by Algernon Blackwood is a novel written in the early 20th century. Set in the Caucasus between the Black and Caspian Seas, The Centaur centres on Terence OMalley, a journalist of mystical temperament who is studying the peoples of the area. OMalley, at odds with the pace and materialism of the modern world, rejects this way of life and instead countenances a return to nature which he interprets as a sense of kinship with the universe. The Centaur is recognized as one of the greatest mystical works by Blackwood, wherein he explores mans empathy with the unknown forces of the universe.
