The morning came with a pale light filtering through the cracks in the cabin walls. Amara awoke to the sound of hushed voices and the distinct aroma of coffee brewing. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and joined Kael and Elias near the fire.
"We need to move quickly," Elias said, handing Kael a rolled map. "The Frostshade Cliffs are days away, and the longer the Bloodstone remains exposed, the more it will attract."
Kael studied the map, nodding. "Well take the northern pass. Its the fastest route."
"And the most dangerous," Elias warned.
Kael shrugged. "Since when have we played it safe?"
Amara crossed her arms. "Shouldnt we be considering safer options? Or at least a plan that doesnt involve walking into enemy territory?"
Elias gave her a pointed look. "This isnt a mission for the faint of heart, hunter. If youre looking for guarantees, you wont find them here."
Her jaw tightened. "Im not looking for guarantees. Just a little common sense."
Kael smirked. "Dont worry. Ill keep you alive."
"Gee, thanks," she muttered.
Elias stepped closer, his amber eyes serious. "The Bloodstone chose you for a reason, Amara. That reason will reveal itself in time, but until then, you need to trust Kael-and yourself. The road ahead wont be easy, but its the only one weve got."
She nodded, the weight of his words settling over her like a shroud. "Ill do what needs to be done."
Kaels expression softened, a flicker of respect in his gaze. "Then lets get moving."
