Sliding Ruins

Black & white edition. "The purpose of my automatic drawings is to explore what my unconscious can bring forth, Sasha Vlad says. This time, he is not alone in doing that. Dan Stanciu explores such visions as well, but in writing. The Sliding Ruins book proves that from any image there can arise a story: suffice it to confer verbal power to it. When drawing, Sasha Vlad proceeds from concentrating on the automatic free flow of unsuspected stimuli, while Dan Stanciu observes the completed image in a kind of creative hypnosis, allowing enigmatic and explosive messages to speak by themselves. The inspiration for the stories to the given drawings works like an alpinists hook in a rock: where there was nothing but vertical wall, a simple concentration creates a firm foothold for the safe ascent to the realm of spontaneous imagination."-Bruno Solařيk, from the Commentary
