Nest of Mice

Nest of Mice is a profound allegorical novel that explores the intersection of survival, corruption, and societal decay through the eyes of a community of rats. Set on a Caribbean island steeped in political turmoil and environmental collapse, the story follows Simon, an aging rat burdened by illness, as he embarks on a final quest to reunite with his long-lost siblings, Nina and Rufus.

Against the backdrop of a human society spiraling into chaos due to corrupt leaders, broken promises, and the exploitation of resources, the rats observe, adapt, and thrive in the shadows. Simons journey is as much about finding peace with his past as it is a reflection on the cyclical nature of power and corruption in human civilization.

As Simon moves through the islands decaying streets and subterranean tunnels, the novel delves deeply into themes of diaspora, survival, and the thin line between hope and resignation. While the humans above wage their futile battles for control, the rats below represent a resilient force that persists, silently weaving their existence into the crumbling remains of a society in decline.

Nest of Mice is a powerful meditation on how marginalized beings, human or animal, navigate the ruins left by those in power. With its richly symbolic narrative and deeply reflective tone, it offers readers a gripping exploration of survival in the face of inevitable decay.
