Mary Younge

It is difficult to imagine a woman who would both meet Mr. Darcys requirements to take charge of his cossetted younger sister, Georgiana, but who would also collaborate with the vile Mr. Wickham. For conspiring with Mr. Darcys nemesis, Mrs. Younge could easily lose both her job and her reputation. It is unlikely she would trust or love Wickham enough to take such a risk. How, then, did he win access to Georgiana in Ramsgate in order to craft their infamous near-elopement?

In Pride and Prejudice, we only know Georgianas infamous former governess through Mr. Darcys eyes, but what if there is another side to Mrs. Younge? A fresh explanation for her behavior? Though this Mrs. Younge conceals some of her past from Mr. Darcy, she neither conspires with Wickham nor is fooled by him. Mary Younge shows us Mrs. Younges side of the story.
