IN and OUT of TUNE

This book complements Robert Ponsonbys earlier Musical Heroes, essays about some of the musicians - among them Jacqueline du Pré, Yehudi Menuhin and Mstislav Rostropovich - he knew during his career as an administrator in music and the performing arts. In and Out of Tune supplies an autobiographical context for these essays. Some reviews of Musical Heroes: "This delightful book..." (Gramophone) "... a generous testament to the many classical music celebrities he has encountered..." (Scotsman) "Ponsonbys essays sum up a golden era of music-making" (Financial Times) "... a lovely gallery of portraits... a long interview with Pierre Boulez about conducting: this alone is a commendation for the book" (Classical Music) "Witty, entertaining and beautifully written..."
