Walter Duranty was best known as a journalist and foreign correspondent who reported on the Soviet Union during the early 20th century. As The New York Times Moscow bureau chief, he covered major political and economic developments, including Stalins Five-Year Plans and the Soviet regimes consolidation of power. Though awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage, his legacy remains controversial due to his denial of the Ukrainian Holodomor, a stance that has been widely criticized for downplaying Soviet atrocities.
