مؤلف كتاب «الإبانة عن سرقات المتنبي» هو: «أبو سعد محمد بن أحمد العميدي» أديب نحوي لغوي ومصنف، سكن مصر وتوفي 433 هجرية، وكان يتولى ديوان الترتيب ثم تولى ديوان الإنشاء بمصر في أيام المستنصر، ولعل أشهر كتبه في التصنيف كتابه: كتاب «تنقيح البلاغة في عشرة مجلدات» وكتاب «الإرشاد إلى حل المنظوم والهداية إلى نظم المنثور» وكتاب «انتزاعات القرآن»، وكتاب «العروض والقوافي».
