في صيف سنة 1934م أخرجتُ قسم أخبار الشعراء المحدثين من كتاب «الأوراق» لأبي بكر محمد بن يحيى الصولي، وكان إخراج هذا القسم باكورة عملي، وقد لقيتُ من تقدير أفاضل المستشرقين وجله العلماء في مصر، وثنائهم على ذلك القسم وإعجابهم به- ما حفَّزني على أن أقوم في هذا العام بنشر الأقسام الباقية، التي عثرتُ عليها من كتاب الأوراق
