Angel of Mercy

Hettie Steward is not your ordinary bride-to-be. Feisty, educated, and fiercely ambitious, she stands on the brink of a life she has long dreamed of - until the weight of societal expectations threatens to confine her to the shadows of domesticity. Having devoted herself to nursing, the love she feels for her fiancé, Geoffrey Bartlette, is eclipsed by the haunting thought that marriage means trading her aspirations for drudgery.

When the echoes of the Great War thunder across the world, Hetties dreams collide with harsh reality. Geoffrey enlists and persuades Hettie to join the Canadian Army Nursing Service. She leaves the quaint familiarity of Ontario for the chaos of battle eager to reclaim her purpose and convinced its the couples only opportunity for a honeymoon.
