Biological nitrogen fixation in sugarcane

Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) has been widely studied and discussed in leguminous plants, to the point of discarding nitrogen fertilization in soybean crops (inoculated with Bradyrhizobium). However, little is known about the contribution of this N source to grasses, especially sugar cane. Sugarcane is of historical and economic importance to Brazil, which is currently the worlds largest producer. With the aim of contributing to the development of knowledge about BNF in sugarcane, this book brings together various aspects of the process, from the use of inoculants and evaluation techniques to the effects of mineral nutrition on fixation.
