Set against the shifting tides of the 20thCentury American South, Shirley Kahn Friedman narrates Within the Ribbons & Out of the Loop through a spirited range of one-page autobiographical vignettes. First published as articles, the following collection contemplates an array of topics pertaining to Southern tradition and social grace, to lifelong marriage and the family unit, not to mention the nights gone by and the days yet to come. Beginning in her hometown of Pelham, Kahn Friedmans vignettes march across the campus greens of the University of Georgia, down the concrete streets of New York City, if only to return to the Empire State of the South, among the kaolin clay of Sandersville, Georgia. 
The result is a generational love-letter to the power of the written word, not only in telling the story of a life well-lived, but also in honoring the beloved memories that made its every second count.
