The Valley of the Moon is an autobiographical portrait of Jack and his wife Chairman leaving working on the Oakland docks to live in Sonoma Valley. The story of Saxon and Billy is a love story that starts off with a boom and then go through difficulties and hard times. Saxon and Billy end up following a wonderful dream. This book is notable for the scenes in which the hero enjoys fellowship with the artists colony in Carmel, and he settles in the Moon. It is Saxon, Londons most fully realised heroine, who embraces these concerns.
