The Homecoming and Other Stories

Inspired by everyday life, especially in the northeast of India, The Homecoming and Other Stories is a heartwarming collection of short stories exploring diverse themes.

Separated from her loved ones at a tender age and forced into the worlds oldest profession, all Meera

wants is to get back to her village and reunite with her family. In the story titled The Homecoming,

will Meera get a second chance at life?

All the stories are based on situations and issues of contemporary life. In these pages, you will find

jealousy, fear, greed and violence, as well as hope, dreams, passion and enthusiasm. A few stories

are about insurgency and its effects while others depict the darker realities-foeticide, blackmail,

superstition, social divide and human trafficking.

Faced with a set of challenges, the protagonists, who are of different age groups, are compelled to

make choices that affect their future. Writer Indrani Baruah, a police officer by profession, takes the

reader beyond the realm of rights and wrongs, and brings forth the various predicaments faced by

the modern-day middle class. The stories earnestly and realistically showcase present-day society

without judging anyone.

The portrayal of the different characters, with all their idiosyncrasies, will stay with you for a very

long time, if not forever.
