Lord Byron (1788-1824), one of Britains leading Romantic poets, is a man well-known for his bold and daring words. In this biography, Richard Edgcumbe presents the rebellious writer also as a man of brave deeds. Following Byrons departure from England in 1816, the author accompanies the restless poet on his travels through Southern Europe, where he encounters fellow Romantic authors Percy Bysshe Shelley and his wife Mary. Later, he enlists for the Greek army in their war for independence against the Ottomans, during which he dies of a violent fever. Today Lord Byron is not only remembered as a literary genius, but also as a Greek national hero.
