Hellenistic and Roman Political Thought

This book sets out to explore one of the most fertile and transformative periods in the history of political thought: the long arc stretching from the fragmentation of the classical Greek polis after the death of Alexander the Great to the complex intellectual world of the late Roman Empire. It is a period marked by profound political upheaval, territorial expansion on an unprecedented scale, and the emergence of new philosophical systems that sought to make sense of a world no longer anchored in the small, participatory communities that had shaped classical political reflection. The purpose of this study is to trace how thinkers, statesmen, historians, and jurists responded to these shifting realities, and how their ideas-sometimes in harmony, sometimes in tension-formed the conceptual foundations of later Western political traditions.
