By chance she meets a black African man in a rainy street and over the next few months they gradually fall in love. Its 1960 and Fiona finds little support from her family, especially from her mother. Nevertheless she marries WiI and they go to live in his home town in Sierra Leone. But right from the start its obvious that Fiona faces the dilemma of life in a society so different to the one she has left. A growing sense of unease keeps us reading on. Are there unforeseen dangers that can destroy her happiness? The book is not just about Fionas life in Africa, it also tells how she comes to understand where her real destiny lies.
