Experience the full fascination of Norse mythology with this comprehensive work, delving deep into the secrets of Yggdrasil, the mythical world tree. This book takes you on a journey through all nine realms - from the mighty halls of Asgard to the dark depths of Helheim. Find out more about the god families of the Asen and Vanen, learn about the role of the mighty giants in Jِtunheim and discover what spiritual significance the tree cult around Yggdrasil once had for mankind.
On around 140 pages, this book offers a balanced mix of narrative and in-depth background knowledge, so that both beginners and connoisseurs of the Norse saga world will be captivated. Detailed chapters on the symbolism of birth, death and rebirth illustrate why Yggdrasil still inspires artists, authors and filmmakers today. Vivid explanations show how Odin tapped into the power of the runes through his sacrifice and how rituals around the World Tree were probably organized. With vivid examples, historical background and an atmospheric narrative style, the author succeeds in making the epic grandeur and mystical depth of the Norse world tangible. An extensive glossary rounds off the book and ensures that you can look up all the technical terms at any time in an understandable way. Whether as an insight into the Viking Age, as inspiration for spiritual practices or simply as an exciting read - this book shows you why the mighty World Tree has lost none of its appeal even in our modern world.
