Wakaima and the Clay Man and Other African Folktales

This early work is a fascinating collection of African folktales intended by the author for the children of America from whose racial inheritance the stories are taken. Nine charming illustrations by Avery Johnson accompany the exploits of Wakaima the rabbit, Wanjovu the elephant, Wango the leopard and many more. Contents include: Wakaima and the Clay Man, Wakaima and the Kings Cow, Wango and Wakaima, Wakaima and His Traps, How Mr. Elephant Got a New Hind End, The Lamb that Talked, The Grandmother and the Apes, How Wambwa Came to Be the Friend of Man, Why Monkeys Live in Trees, Wakikere and Wamusota, Sesota, the Great Snake of Kalungu, How Wakikere Lost His Tail, The Question About a Cow and a Note from the Author. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
