The Life of J. M. W. Turner

"The Life of J. M. W. Turner" is a fascinating biography of the seminal landscape-painter, diligently composed by Philip Gilbert Hamerton. Of all the great landscape-painters, Turner was most comprehensive in his study of nature. Always the artist rather than the naturalist though, he understood the difference between art and nature - an important characteristic often lacking from his contemporaries and brothers-in-craft. This fascinating biography of one of the most seminal landscape-painters to ever have lived, contains one of the most comprehensive and engaging accounts of the great painter - a must-have for anyone interested in Turners life. Philip Gilbert Hamerton was an artist, art critic and author. Originally published in 1920, this rare text is being republished now, with a new introductory biography of the author. Many vintage texts such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive, and it is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition. It comes complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.
