About this Product
This comedic play, set in Renaissance Italy, revolves around the larger-than-life figure of Benvenuto Cellini, a notorious sculptor and adventurer. Mayers witty and romantic drama highlights the colorful escapades of Cellini as he navigates love, politics, and artistic ambition. Blending humor with historical elements, The Firebrand offers a lively and entertaining portrayal of one of historys most charismatic figures.
Edwin Justus Mayer (1896-1960) was an American screenwriter best known for working with Ernst Lubitsch in To Be or Not to Be (1942), about a troupe of actors in Nazi-occupied Warsaw who use their abilities at disguise and acting to fool the occupying troops, and A Royal Scandal (1945), about the love life of Russian Czarina Catherine the Great, starring Tallulah Bankhead.
