About this Product
A wide range of themes and variety of poetic genres and styles and snapshots form remote and contemporary times gathered in one volume are most often found in anthologies featuring different writers. However, in the pages of Phases of the Day and Other Poems all these several motifs and virtues come into high relief from the creative inspiration of only one poet. Archetypal themes of the basic human instincts of love, hatred, ambition and the transience of life, portraits of famous historical figures held up for the edification of mankind, allegorical depictions of denizens of nature serving as tutorials for all ages, and encompassing social catastrophes like the plague bringing out the worst and the best in human nature and society: all these significant themes are couched in a variety of generic moulds, inter alia the ode, the sonnet, the epic as well as innovative creative genres which renders every encounter with this poetry volume a rewarding. reading experience. The prose preface to the poetry collection, "An Aesthetic of Literary Appreciation" is a mature reflection on basic literary standards and is intended to equip the average reader with critical tools and evaluative criteria for assessing the literary value not only of the poems in this volume but also of other works of imaginative literature he may come across in his reading journey through life.
