Completely by accident, a miner working his claim literally stumbles upon a previously unknown phenomenon that defies any reasonable description. When he presents the discovery to a group of experts, speculation surrounding the phenomenons origin ignites a firestorm of controversy. Regent Mihyn likes her comfortable life as a professor, but is intrigued by the phenomenon. Professor Rymnyrs vision convinces her that it is their destiny to find its source. The ever analytical, logical Regent Krynut is skeptical of theories about the origin of the phenomenon, but finds himself hopelessly pulled into the search by his spirit of adventure.

The series takes readers on a rollicking journey to faraway places, as well as more familiar locales. Along the way, they will encounter a host of strange, colorful characters who must make great sacrifices, and exhibit incredible perseverance to attain their goals. The tale is interwoven with several significant events of the early 20th century, including the birth of jazz music in America.
