Memorisation

On approaching a performance, every professional or amateur pianist is confronted with the same problem: how to memorise music effectively so that it will withstand the pressures of the stage. Like most concert pianists, Chenyin Li was challenged when preparing for recitals to retain all the necessary information in a secure and reliable way. Under the extreme demands of a series of concerts, Chenyin Li devised a number of memory aids that have since become an integral part of her learning routine. In this book, Chenyin Li not only shares her ideas about her method, but also incorporates different approaches to this subject by other concert pianists, and includes a study of some of the psychological aspects of the human memory. This research will be of great interest and relevance to students, pedagogues and professional musicians who might be challenged by the complex process of memorising piano music.
