Jedburgh The Secret Teams Behind D-Day and the Birth of Modern Special Forces

In the dark hours before the Allied invasion of Europe, small teams of soldiers parachuted into Nazi-occupied territory with almost no support and a mission that could change the course of the war.

They were the Jedburghs.

Drawn from American, British, and European forces, these highly trained volunteers formed three-man teams that slipped behind enemy lines to organize resistance fighters, sabotage German communications, and prepare the ground for the Allied advance. Operating in uniform but deep inside occupied territory, they faced capture, torture, or execution-often with little hope of recognition if they succeeded.

Jedburgh reveals the remarkable story of these secret warriors and the daring strategy that placed them at the heart of the Allied effort during and after D-Day. From the recruitment and intense training in Britain to the hazardous night drops over France and the Low Countries, the book uncovers how these multinational teams forged alliances with local resistance movements and helped disrupt German defenses at a critical moment in history.

More than a wartime chronicle, this book shows how the Jedburgh experiment reshaped modern warfare. Their innovative model, small, highly trained teams working with indigenous fighters, became the blueprint for todays Special Forces and modern unconventional warfare.

Rich in historical detail and filled with stories of courage, improvisation, and leadership under extreme pressure, Jedburgh brings to life one of the most daring and influential special operations programs of the Second World War.

For readers of military history, intelligence operations, and special operations forces, this is the gripping account of the secret teams who helped win the war and created the foundations of modern special warfare.
