The goal of Orthodontic practice is to achieve the desired results with minimum undesired consequences, which is largely dependent on the availability of anchorage. One such effect is the loss of anchorage. Anchorage, the degree of resistance to displacement, is a critical component to successful orthodontic treatment. Anchorage control is a fundamental problem in the treatment of malocclusions. Orthodontic miniscrew implants (read mini-implants) have been designed to circumvent the limitations posed by restorative dental implants. These smaller bone screws are significantly less expensive, are easily placed and removed, and can be placed in almost any intra-oral region, including between the roots of the teeth.
