16 Women Hanged

16 Women ... Hanged by the neck until dead From a total of almost 900 people executed in Great Britain between 1900 and 1964, when the practice finally ended, only sixteen were women. Women who killed in England, Scotland, and Wales. Women who murdered babies, children, boyfriends, husbands, in-laws, and complete strangers. This is the first comprehensive study of these cases using meticulous research from newly opened criminal files and court proceedings from the national archives. This book is also a work of social history which shows the hard, brutal world these people lived and died in. Women who killed by brick, rope, suffocation, pokers, knives, hammer, poisons, fire plates, fire, and of course, the ubiquitous gun. Several of these convictions show that the British justice system is not always infallible and asks the question, is the female of the species really more deadly than the male?
